Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

Server Purchase Suggestion

Dear members,

I am planning to buy used server for VMware ESXi and throw linux multiple images on it for my RHCE exam practise. I have two options, can anyone suggest which one will be best for me.

1: HP Proliant DL380 G4 server, 2x Xeon 3.6GHz, 4Gb RAM

2: Dell PowerEdge 1850 Server / 2 x Xeon 3.4GHz / 4GB RAM

I am also concerned with VMWare ESXi 4/5 can be installed on these? Also if someone experienced any problem with VMware or other with these products please write it down.

thank you

Edit: I goggled for ESXi compatibility for these servers and every website says its own story, dont know which one to believe on.

Have to admit I do like the DL380 range, I've used the G4 a few years back and at that time we weren't using them for virtualisation in any great way. Why not contact VMWare's pre-sales department, they'd be most likely the best to give you advice on specific compatibility.

Old systems, with no hardware virtualisation support.

You might be better of with a newer system that has hardware virtualisation.

I contacted VMWare and these servers are just compactable with ESXi 3.5 and even with that it wont support 64 bit clients :S

Will I be able to install VMWare workstation 8 or 9 on windows at same servers?
