server or pc?
 

Sorry for such a question, but, what's the difference between a common pc and a server? Apache runs on my pc box, would it run faster/further on a server box?
(Dell sells servers for 1000 EUR up. )

A server box usually just comes in a different style case (server tower or rackmountable) and is more powerful. It will not usually contain a good 3D graphics card but will be optomised towards normal "server" functions, such as being a webserver, mail server, or network controller.

In answer to your query, no Apache would not run faster on a "server" machine of the same speed CPU.

To further refine it, a server is generally optimized for throughput, be it by card, or memory. In the server world, throughput is the goal, hence the newest bandwidth increasing technologies that come out in servers first. pci-x and infiniband...etc.

To add to other people's post. A server is just a PC. Chassis could be a normal desktop mini-tower and host a few web sites.

A server can also be a size of a thumbnail.

The size and power of the server relates to the goals.
