Server Motherboard + CPU recommandation

hey guys,

i'm new to the forum...
i'm also new at Linux, running Fedora Core 5 :P

I'm thinking of making a server with linux, perhaps RAID few drives.. etc etc..

I wanna hear your recommandation of what type of motherboard and processor to use?

I want the system to run without any errors (of course) for a LONG LONG time without resetting so much...

I was thinking in lines of Pentium 4's with some Asus motherboard..

wanna give me some inputs of what model# of motherboard and type of CPU i should get?

*i'm limited in $$$ so nothing too crazy

Welcome to LQ. Hardware recommendation requests are very common, and there are quite a few threads on similar questions that you might review for their responses. Overall, both AMD and Intel make quality CPU's, and most of the name-brand mobos work just fine under Linux. To be honest, it's difficult to make recommendations without knowing your budget, and what demands would be placed on this machine - obviously a server that would be accessed by 5000 concurrent users would have different requirements than a small, 3 or 4 PC home network server. Either way, your initial instincts are OK - FWIW I like Asus mobo's, and they work equally well with both AMD and Intel chips
