Server Hardware for Linux

Hi everyone!

I want to setup a simple file / backup server for my company. Need to buy some hardware, and I was wondering if there where some of the mainboards / chipsets people know out there, that may not work on linux.

Thinking about ubuntu / fedora 5

CPU
Mainboard / Chipset
Network card / built in versions
Harddrives / SATA / IDE
DVD-Burners

Think krnl2.6 will be used!

There are sites that list hardware compatibility for linux. Here's one:
http://www.tldp.org/HOWTO/Hardware-HOWTO/
but there are others, perhaps more up to date.

Best thing IMHO is to get your wish list together, then search for each item with the word linux. If you find people have had lots of trouble making it work, then use a different component.

you're really not going to come up against any problems. the greyest area was generally sata, but if you're building on fc5 or ubunuto dapper, you won't have problems withchipset drivers there at all.
