Server Hard Crashing
Hello everyone,
I hope someone can help or lead me to a solution to a problem i am having.
We just brouhgt up a server and moved over a bunch of sites to it, it has been running perfect until we setup backup's.
Every night the backup runs during or after it the server seems to lock up, it is usually when it is near completion.
The server is a brand new
HP DL320 G3
P4 2.66
2GB Ram
2x 36GB SCSI
Redhat 9.0
Kernel 2.4.20-20-9 RH build
It is setup with software raid.
During the setup with the software raid in the RH installation process i was unaware of how to create a swap partition since i thought the drives would have to have the same amount of space, couldn't figure out if you could create partition's and just bind the partition etc..
Anyhow, to get to the point there was no swap, i created a swapfile which was 512MB, i figure it is enough since its got 2GB of ram..
Could it be the swap size causing this? Could it be the fact that the swap is a file and not on a seperate partition? Could it be the software raid?
I am in a stump and this is getting really lame, sooner or later the FS is going to get screwed with all these hard reboots.
Any thoughts you could give would be great.
Regards,
Ameen
