Slackware-10.1 will autodetect any hardware for which it has a module (driver)
in the kernel you select. There is
The Revised Slackware Book Project which you
should read before you start to install Slackware. And you should also check to
see what hardware in your computer may be detected by the kernel (2.4.29) in
Slackware-10.1. You can check your hardware here in our
Linux HCL, though all
of it might not be there. And this
Kernel Build HOW-TO has some information to
help you determine your hardware in the Preparation section. It would be easier
to get a Linux LiveCD such as
Knoppix, boot your computer with it, then check to
see how well your hardware is detected. You can use the information from that
LiveCD to determine your hardware. I would also read
some of these resources if I were you:
They will help you get a good foundation. I am having to _start over_ with *nix
now, because I don't have a good foundation, and find that it is getting harder
and harder to progress without one.
Hope that helps. You should also search our Slackware Installation forum, and
if you need some help, post information back here. And one more resource:
How To Ask Questions The Smart Way by Eric Steven Raymond & Rick Moen will
not only teach you how to make a good post so you can be helped better, but
it will also teach you how to search for information, so that you don't have to
depend upon other people so much.
There are many servers available in a Linux distribution...depends upon your
needs as to which server you should run.
