serious no-sound problem on redhat

I have a intel AC97 soundcard and I am using redhat. I don't see any error and I am fully aware that speaker is properly connected. I did probe the soundcard by 'setup' command. And I was able to hear a sound test.

But I am unable to hear sound on XMMS and i did try CLI command 'cdplay'. I can hear Cd inside the computer is rotating but No sound.

What the 'heck' is it I can't understand. Please help me. I think this is the only forum that can actually give the right direction.
