Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

serial mouse not working

Hi all,
Newbie here

I have just loaded Fedora Core 4 on an old 333mhz computer (slow or what?).

The boot up blurb recognises my serial mouse but when the desktop loads, the mouse pointer stays in the centre and will not respond to any type of prodding. What can I do?

Any info welcomed but in words of one syllable preferably (not ending in off!)

you have to modify your /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 manually.
Be a root, and open those file using your favorite text editor.
Go to a mouse section, and change your mouse protocol to "Microsoft".
Good luck!

I had the same problem when I recently upgraded my Myth box to FC4. That fix worked perfectly on my wireless airboard keyboard/mouse. Thanks.
