Selecting from multiple sound cards

I've got onboard sound and USB sound, both working. They both produce the test output from yast. I can't get any apps to send they're output to the USB though. The default is the onboard sound and I'm not sure how to change it.

I'm not finding any bios option to disable the onboard, and that's not ideal anyway because there are times when I'd want to use it.

KMix shows the mixer for the USB device but doesn't seem to affect which device is used for playback.

Any thoughts?

Code:
sean@Iago:~> cat /proc/asound/cards
0 [I82801CAICH3 ]: ICH - Intel 82801CA-ICH3
                     Intel 82801CA-ICH3 with CS4205 at 0xd800, irq 5
1 [Audio ]: USB-Audio - USB Audio
C-Media INC. USB Audio at usb-0000:00:1d.0-1, full speed

Try to use xmms with the alsa output in order to make tests. This should be a good starting point.

Thanks for the advice. I actually found a solution. I posted it on linuxforums.org.

I'm trying to post the link to the thread there but this server keeps telling me I can't post links to other sites until I've made 5 posts .

If anyone is looking for the solution. you can probably search for it there.
