Segfault in old hardware

I have a second hand computer but then whenever I install _any_ os on it I get segfaults. I have recently upgraded the ram and I do not think that is the issue.
Also it seems like whenever I try to install an os it seems like the os is not being installed properly. I bought a new dvd writer but the issue remains. I do not think I can buy a new computer so can anyone tell me what can I do next. Thankfullu this happens only in gui mode the cli crashes more often than not. The thing is I have seen older pcs running fine with no issues - I am using debian - any suggestions would be welcome.

Might work out for you. Works on older gear. Runs fine on my IBM A22m with only 256mb of ram. I upgraded to a 2.6.34 kernel after installing. Skype, Mic, and sound work also and plays DVD movies. Based on Debian Testing but can be changed to Debian Sid if so wished after install by uncommenting Sid repositories in /etc/apt/sources.list.

i486 isos available also.

That you have upgraded the RAM doesn't mean that it can't be faulty. Get Memtest86+ and test your RAM.
