seeking HOWTO -- EmperorLinux(tm) kernel

Folks,
I have a laptop from the folks at EmperorLinux. I'd like to find help with updating and customizing my kernel from someone else who has done it with the Emperor Linux "enhancements."

I don't know if this is native Ubuntu or an Emperor detail, but the running kernel config was found with gzip -dc /proc/config.gz.

My laptop was built with Ubuntu Hardy Heron (v8.04.3 LTS) and the "v2.6.22.1-emp" kernel. As the the most recent auto-update run, I now have the "v.2.6.24-26" kernel from Ubuntu repositories.

I am very satisfied with both the system and their support. I recommend them to others wanting a linux laptop.

QUESTION:
Is there some reason we don't use a meta-package with kernels where the package includes dependencies for other things that the new kernel will break ... or something?

Thanks,
~~~ 0;-Dan
Everyone puts their own endings on the kernel; It's a config option. redhat and others also patch it.
Get the sources from emperor linux, and you have the basis for their kernel. Start with their config. Don't start unless you want/need a kernel. Linus has built a few in his time and the README has his instructions.
