second writer

I replaced my DVD reader because it was dead to a new DVD writer but now I see only the new writer. I cannot copy from one disk to an other. Can be this a jumper problem?

Sounds like it is a jumper issue. If on the same cable then one is master and the other is slave. Is this the way it is. If there is cable select jumper don't use that.

Question

The problem is is still not solved.I put the jumper on master switch it works on linux sometimes.
Here is the configuration again:
The exchange DVD-reader to DVD-writer (Model Samsung Super writemaster) is master as before
old writer is origine in the maschine and is set to slave
I can copy CD's but when I come from windows it will not work.
Under windows it don't see the drive correctly

I replaced the IDE cable but this also not work. I find out, under linux and under windows I see both drives correctly with a boot from scratch, but with a reboot or an OS change the slave drive is gone. Is that a bios problem?
