Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

Seagate Information and a question

At 2am I had one of my drives start to go bad on me and I have spent all day trying to copy stuff off of it. For those of you with Seagate drives I wanted to pass along to you that Seagate is saying they no longer to Advanced Replacement, so boo on them.

All of this happened in Windows and while Windows sucks it doesnt really cause hardware to die. I have been trying to migrate to linux, but I found out about this problem in the Windows event logs and I was wondering if there is a hard drive write or read error where can I find that error in linux?

Thanks

Pete
