Seagate Barracuda XT 3T: only 750G available
Years ago I bought an external 3T drive and put some old project-specific files on it. Wanting to consolidate a few external drives in a multibay case I took this Seagate Barracuda XT out of the original case and have discovered that it now sees only 750G. Losing the data is a minor irritant but not crucial.
I repartitioned it from DOS to GPT using cfdisk and that's when I learned that the full 3000G are not available. I looked at it with lsblk and tried to access the entire capacity using fdisk and parted/gparted all to no avail. The serial number is 0XK0K40K and the date is 11411. Might there be a tool other than what I've tried which will allow me to access all 3T on this drive? |
You don't say what computer / bios / linux distro you are using but a quick search turned up this article:

Thanks, TenTenths. I was about to post this information. I learned this morning that it's the usb<->sata connector that's limiting what the drives sees. The adapter I use is an older one and almost certainly has a 32-bit limit on drive size it recognizes.
I'll find the sata cable to the multibay cabinet and use that on this drive rather than the USB cable. Regards, Rich |
