SCSI Tape Drive for DC600A tapes

We have an old PC running Xenix that was used to back-up survey data to 60MB DC600A tape cartridges using 'tar'. The Xenix box has died and we need to set up a new Linux machine to read the old tapes ( we have about 300!!) and burn the data to CDs for disatster recovery and possible use of the data in support of litigation.
Can anyone suggest a tape drive that will work with these old DC600A cartridges? I have 2 machines set up with Adaptec AHA-2940 scsi cards. One is running Mandrake (just loaded 10); the other slackware 9.1. THe scsi cards are operational. I just need to find a drive that will work with the tapes.
BTW, the old Xenix boxes used a Sanyo tape drive with a proprietary Everex controller card (EV-831). Couldn't get the new Linux boxes to see the controller card much less the tape drive. We did get the card/tape drive to work on an old DOS pc using some ancient Tecmar software but, of course, DOS has no idea what a tar file is!

Thanks for any guidance or advice.
