Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

SCSI connections for RedHat AS 3

Does anyone know if the RedHat OS has a limitation on the number of scsi connections that it can have? I'm not sure if I'm asking the correct question in the correct forum. If I'm not please direct me.

What I have is a HP Proliant DL560 that is running RedHat AS3. This server has 2 internal drive and 8 drives that come from an EVA storage unit via fiber channel connections. We have dual fiber cards for redundancy so even though we have 8 physical drives connect, the OS is picking up 16 drives.

The problem is I need 10 drives from the EVA. Our EVA administrator has verified numerous times that the drives are connected. We've actually gone through the process of unpresenting and presenting several times and I still am only picking up the first 8 drives. We are using Secure Path also and it is detecting the same amount of drives as the OS.

If anyone can help or point me to another forum that would be greatly appreciated. I wanted to attach a snippet from the /var/log/messages when it detects the scsi connections but I wasn't quit sure how to attach the file. If it's okay to past to the post I will, but it is pretty lenghty.

Thanks in advance

There is a "MAX_LUN" setting that can be changed.
Try adding this to your /etc/modules.conf:

options scsi_mod max_scsi_luns=127

Replace scsi_mod with your module, and 127 with your desired value.

Thanks so much for your response. I tried this using this entry in the modules.conf file

options qla2200 max_scsi_luns=127

and rebooted the server and there was no change. I still saw only 8 vdisks. I booted the server again and hit CTL+Q to get to the Fast!Util menu. In there I verified that the 'LUNS per Target' option for the qla2200 adapter was set to 128 and it was. So I'm pulling my hair out at this point trying to figure out what is happening.

I finally print out the WWW_LUNIDs of the vdisks that I can see and sit with our SAN Administrator and we go through each one and do individual verification and found the vdisks that were unpresented. He presented them and I am in good shape.

Thanks again, I learned some things today!
Good luck on the lab!
