Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

SCSI Card Errors from System Log

Hello,

I recently installed a symbios SCSI card. I do not have devices attached yet as I'm rebuilding an older Compaq SCSI storage array. However, does someone know if this error is caused because I don't have any devices hooked up yet or is it something different or Is this a hardware compatibility issue or hardware failure? I get this error every time the system boots.

Apr 10 06:02:04 ASUSA7V266-E kernel: kmod: failed to exec /sbin/modprobe -s -k scsi_hostadapter, errno = 2
Apr 10 06:02:05 ASUSA7V266-E kernel: sym53c875-0-<5,0>: COMMAND FAILED (8a ff) @c1895000.
Apr 10 06:02:05 ASUSA7V266-E kernel: sym53c875-0: unexpected disconnect
Apr 10 06:02:05 ASUSA7V266-E kernel: sym53c875-0-<6,0>: COMMAND FAILED (8a ff) @c1895000.

There is more but this should give you the gist. Thank you.

I have gotten the first line with every version of Redhat since 6.0 (now using 8.0) with every machine (all Dells) and SCSI adpater (all Adaptecs) I've tried. It doesn't seem to affect anything and so I've not made the time to try to track it down.

Not sure about the other three lines. If the card does not have automatic termination, I would thing that the absence of devices would be a problem.

Thanks. Yes, you are correct. I have only the card installed at the moment. I'm ordering new drives for my array but haven't received them yet. Thank you!

redhat 8.0 has good scsi support for PCI cards but if your
card is ISA you still have to configure it manualy nothing below 8.0 has good scsi support
