Scsi bus re-scan
I have an externel tape drive connected to an AHA-2910 Adaptec SCSI controller. If I manage to turn on the tape drive BEFORE linux boots (Mandrake 9.2) it shows up as /dev/st0 (nst0) and all works fine. However, if I fail to do it in time then /dev/st0 disappears. I want to be able to turn on the tape drive, rescan the bus and have /dev/st0 re-appear. How can I do this (short of rebooting linux)?

I tracked down a script to rescan the scsi bus, Verbosely! when fiddling with an iPod:

I ran the script and it reported my tape drive and IDE cdrom (ide-scsi). Of course, the tape drive had been recognised on last reboot so the script did not add it. I looked at the script and looks like it should do the trick. Next time I need it I'll try it for real.
Thanks. |
