My screen scrolls in waves as if refreshing every movement. I have installed the right video driver. I am wondering if the problem is the keyboard and/or mouse. Any thoughts or suggestions would help. In the meantime I still have to use Windows to avoid a seizure. I would like to use only Linux SUSE 10.2.
Distribution: Switched to regualr Ubuntu, because I don't like KDE4, at all. Looks like vista on crack.....

Is it just firefox or all apps ? Firefox has a "smooth scrolling" option. Have you checked to make sure that X is using the correct driver ? I'm a Kubuntu fan, so I'm afraid I'm not much help for suse issues.

Good luck...

Free Loader: Smooth scrolling option is selected in Firefox. Problem exists throughout. X is using the correct driver.
Driver for Radeon 9250 downloaded from ATI.
I downloaded it again(root)and it stated that it was already installed.
Other than that I do not know if it is properly installed.
Any suggestions appreciated.
My first impression, that how-to looks a bit outdated. Have a look at the file xorg.conf which is under X11, which itself is under the /etc directory. Which driver does it report under section "device"?
If just trying to have a look at a file is enough to make your system crash, then something must be seriously worng. Try again. If it still does that, we'll have to bring out the heavy guns.
Edit: Getting confused after reading your post again. What do you mean exactly, "Tried this." Simply looking into xorg.conf as I assume, or did you try to reinstall the driver as explained in my previous post????
It crashed simply looking into xorg.conf . Two other times it crashed like this is when I tried to access the mouse file and video/monitor file while in YAST. Very strange!

You could try generating a new xorg.conf from the command line. Before doing so, make sure you have a proper back-up of your current one because it will get overwritten in the process. Type this into a terminal:
su -
root password
cp /etc/X11/xorg.conf /etc/X11/xorg.conf.bak
When you're done, change to runlevel 3:
init 3
then run this command:
/usr/bin/xorgconfig
Follow the instructions; I think they're clear and intuitive. Do some research before you start: what screen resolution does your screen support, whick kind of mouse and keyboard have you got, ... Also when you are asked to select a video driver, just select VESA - this is a generic driver that works always; you can install your ATI driver when X is up and running again.
Then you can reboot:
reboot
Don't worry if you don't get it right straightaway; you can always start over. If you can't get into Gnome/KDE anymore, you can simply boot into runlevel three by adding this to your boot line in Grub:
3
And then redo the xorgconfig. That's all, really.
If it doesn't work and you need to recover your old display, you place back your xorg.conf.bak:
Care to post what you learned so others might learn it too? Someone might stumble on this page using Google, and recording how you fixed it might help them too
