Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

Screen resolution with radeon

Few years ago I installed Ubuntu Maverick on my Acer Aspire One 522 netbook with ATI Radeon graphic card. I had to install propietary Catalyst driver to get good screen resolution. As I remember, max resolution was about 1366 x 768.
Now few distros I test with high version kernel ( > 3.10 ) have open source radeon driver already built in the kernel, which is very nice, but the max resolution is only about 1024 x 600 or 1024 x 720 (CMIIW). With installed latest propietary Catalyst driver it's also the same.
Thanks for solution or workaround.

I would say they cannot recognize the type of the graphic card properly. You need to check the logs.
