Screen Does Not Sync Correctly
Here is my problem,
I am running SuSE 9.1 on a laptop Specs: Processor - Pentium 4 2.8 GHz Video - ATI Mobility Radeon 9000 Current Resolution - 1280x1024 The display on the laptop works fine...when I plug a my monitor at work into the display it works fine (ViewSonic Brand)...but when I plug my monitor at home (Samsung SyncMaster 955df) into the laptop my desktop scrolls in every direction (The screen is larger than the actual monitor size). How do I fix this problem...? I've tried moding the XF86config file...using Yast to change the display settings...nothing works!!! I've made sure the virtual display is disabled. Also, the laptop screen still works fine...and both work fine running up through the startup display. Here is my XF86config file generated by Yast: Can someone help me out...? Thanks. # /.../ # SaX generated XFree86 config file # Created on: 2004-04-29T17:27:54-0700. # # Version: 4.7 # Contact: Marcus Schaefer <sax@suse.de>, 2002 # # Automatically generated by [ISaX] (4.7) # PLEASE DO NOT EDIT THIS FILE! # Section "Files" FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/misc:unscaled" FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/local" FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/75dpi:unscaled" FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/100dpi:unscaled" FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/Type1" FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/URW" FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/Speedo" FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/PEX" FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/cyrillic" FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/latin2/misc:unscaled" FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/latin2/75dpi:unscaled" FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/latin2/100dpi:unscaled" FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/latin2/Type1" FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/latin7/75dpi:unscaled" FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/baekmuk:unscaled" FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/japanese:unscaled" FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/kwintv" FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/truetype" FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/uni:unscaled" FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/CID" FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/ucs/misc:unscaled" FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/ucs/75dpi:unscaled" FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/ucs/100dpi:unscaled" FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/hellas/misc:unscaled" FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/hellas/75dpi:unscaled" FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/hellas/100dpi:unscaled" FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/hellas/Type1" FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/misc/sgi:unscaled" FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/xtest" InputDevices "/dev/ttyS0" InputDevices "/dev/ttyS1" InputDevices "/dev/ttyS2" InputDevices "/dev/ttyS3" InputDevices "/dev/ttyS4" InputDevices "/dev/ttyS5" InputDevices "/dev/ttyS6" InputDevices "/dev/ttyS7" InputDevices "/dev/ttyS8" InputDevices "/dev/psaux" InputDevices "/dev/logibm" InputDevices "/dev/sunmouse" InputDevices "/dev/atibm" InputDevices "/dev/amigamouse" InputDevices "/dev/atarimouse" InputDevices "/dev/inportbm" InputDevices "/dev/gpmdata" InputDevices "/dev/mouse" InputDevices "/dev/usbmouse" InputDevices "/dev/adbmouse" InputDevices "/dev/input/mice" InputDevices "/dev/input/event0" InputDevices "/dev/pointer0" InputDevices "/dev/pointer1" InputDevices "/dev/pointer2" InputDevices "/dev/pointer3" EndSection Section "ServerFlags" Option "AllowMouseOpenFail" Option "RandR" "on" EndSection Section "Module" Load "glx" Load "speedo" Load "v4l" Load "freetype" Load "dbe" Load "extmod" Load "type1" Load "dri" EndSection Section "InputDevice" Driver "Keyboard" Identifier "Keyboard[0]" Option "Protocol" "Standard" Option "XkbLayout" "us" Option "XkbModel" "pc104" Option "XkbRules" "xfree86" EndSection Section "InputDevice" Driver "mouse" Identifier "Mouse[1]" Option "Device" "/dev/pointer1" Option "Emulate3Buttons" "on" Option "Name" "Autodetection" Option "Protocol" "ps/2" Option "Vendor" "Sysp" EndSection Section "InputDevice" Driver "mouse" Identifier "Mouse[3]" Option "Buttons" "5" Option "Device" "/dev/pointer0" Option "Name" "Autodetection" Option "Protocol" "imps/2" Option "Vendor" "Sysp" Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5" EndSection Section "Monitor" Option "CalcAlgorithm" "UseFrameBufferTiming" DisplaySize 320 240 HorizSync 30-85 Identifier "Monitor[0]" ModelName "SYNCMASTER 955DF(T)" Option "DPMS" VendorName "SAMSUNG" VertRefresh 42-160 UseModes "Modes[0]" EndSection Section "Modes" Identifier "Modes[0]" Modeline "1280x1024" 108.00 1280 1328 1440 1688 1024 1025 1028 1066 +HSync +VSync Modeline "1024x768" 44.00 1024 1032 1208 1264 768 769 777 817 Interlace +HSync +VSync Modeline "1024x768" 64.00 1024 1048 1184 1344 768 771 777 806 Modeline "1024x768" 74.00 1024 1048 1184 1328 768 771 777 806 Modeline "1024x768" 78.00 1024 1040 1136 1312 768 769 772 800 +HSync +VSync Modeline "1024x768" 78.65 1024 1056 1184 1312 768 772 776 792 -HSync -VSync Modeline "1024x768" 100.00 1024 1024 1120 1312 768 789 804 845 Modeline "1024x768" 109.00 1024 1024 1112 1392 768 768 776 792 EndSection Section "Screen" DefaultDepth 24 SubSection "Display" Depth 15 Modes "1024x768" EndSubSection SubSection "Display" Depth 16 Modes "1024x768" EndSubSection SubSection "Display" Depth 24 Modes "1280x1024" EndSubSection SubSection "Display" Depth 32 Modes "1024x768" EndSubSection SubSection "Display" Depth 8 Modes "1024x768" EndSubSection Device "Device[0]" Identifier "Screen[0]" Monitor "Monitor[0]" EndSection Section "Device" BoardName "RV250 Lf" BusID "1:0:0" Driver "radeon" Identifier "Device[0]" Screen 0 Option "Rotate" "off" VendorName "ATI" EndSection Section "ServerLayout" Identifier "Layout[all]" InputDevice "Keyboard[0]" "CoreKeyboard" InputDevice "Mouse[1]" "CorePointer" InputDevice "Mouse[3]" "SendCoreEvents" Option "Clone" "off" Option "Xinerama" "off" Screen "Screen[0]" EndSection Section "DRI" Group "video" Mode 0660 EndSection |
If I understand your problem description, you are trying to display your laptop at home on a monitor capbable of only 1024x768 using a 1280x1024 resolution. Your clever drivers are trying to save you from yourself by reverting to a virtual 1280x1024 mode displayed on a physical 1024x768 display.
You could try modifying the following section of your config file: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Depth 24 Modes "1280x1024" EndSubSection ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ To look like: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Depth 24 Modes "1280x1024" "1024x768" EndSubSection ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ And then pressing <CTRL><KP-> to switch to the lower resolution when you are at home. |
