Scanning problem with a flatbed scanner
Relevant sane-find-scanner output:
found USB scanner (vendor=0x04a5 [Color], product=0x20de [ FlatbedScanner 13]) at libusb:001:004
Relevant scanimage -L output:
device `snapscan:libusb:001:004' is a Acer FlatbedScanner21 flatbed scanner
--
So it's detected correctly, it works in Kooka... BUT! When I do a preview and it scans the entire scan area, it seems to go too far because it makes a really annoying clicking noise as if a toy machine was being fired. It really freaks me out because I don't want my scanner to break.
Is there a way to configure my scanner so that it won't let it go past a certain height? Or is my problem something else?
Willing to use screen for help.

As your scanner is not mentioned in SANE: list of supported devices it probably uses the wrong driver. Found snapscan backend for sane where your scanner is mentioned.
Just check the versions of your sane backend versus the latest one on the second link (and update if necessary).
I have a HP Scanjet 3400 (uses niash backend), and the niash-backend documentation specifically warns for this problem. When it happens, switch off the scanner.

Wim can you tell me whether you are getting debug messages for niash backend?? i exported SANE_DEBUG_NIASH for sane-1.0.17 but not getting any debug messages stating [niash]. Also facing problem for HP3300C scanner detection. Do you know any solution to this problem?

@ Scotteh:
pull the power cord out; the HP 3400C also doesn't have an on-off switch. I however have never experienced the problem (the few times that I use it)
@ paragn:
I don't know, at this moment I even don't know which version I have. I'm running Slackware 10.0 and installed niash from scratch (about a year ago). I can only remember that I was battling a bit as I needed a newer libusb.
Never looked at debug as I got it working.
