Scanner woes

Hey guys, here's the deal. I have a usb cannon multipass f80 that has a nice scanner built in. Under windoze it uses TWAIN drivers, but under linux I suppose sane in the way to go.

When I run sane (or sane-configure, I can't remember) it says that it picks up a cannon scanner. So, I tried scanimage but it says there isn't a sane scanner.

This is really a question of protocol, what do I do to get a scanner up and running? Are there drivers to be dealt with? Any help from someone who has set up a scanenr would be great. I am using slackware 10.1 with kernel
