Scanner Problem

Having looked all over the web for a solution to my problems I found a site with a download claiming to be the backend for sane I needed to run my scanner.

The machine is a HP Scanjet 3300C.
I am using KDE 3.1
I am running Slack 9.1.
Linux Kernel 2.4.22
Machine - Dell Dimension 8100
2x USB Ports on the rear.

I have downloaded the files I think nessecary, configured and installed them. I run xsane and it looks for the hardware but does not find it.

I have summarised my dmesg o/p here for you to look at ---

usb.c - registered new driver usbdevfs
usb.c - registered new driver hub
uhci.c - USB Universal host controller Interface Driver V1.1
uhci.c - USB UHCI at I/O 0xef80, IRQ 10
usb.c - new USB Bus Registered, assigned bus number 1
hub.c - USB Hub found
hub.c - 2 ports detected
hub.c - new USB device 00:1f.2-2 assigned address 2

then it has another line

USB device 2 (vend/prod 0x3f0/0x2o5) not claimed by active driver.

then it follows - - - - - - -

usb.c - registering new driver - usbscanner
scanner.c - usbscanner device (0x3f0/0x2o5) now at scanner0
scanner.c - 0.4.13:USB Scanner

Following this message through in my head I see the usb system being initialized and assigned its I/O address, IRQ etc.

There are two ports on the rear of the machine this is correct. I am assuming the line mentioning the USB Device 2 is not claimed by an active device as a temporary statement.

The last three lines ---

assign a scanner to scanner0 - this sounds ok
scanner.c - 0.4.13:USB Scanner - not sure what this is; I am assuming this is the HP Specific Driver which has been associated with scanner0.

This is the part I cannot work out. Is my problem most likely to be that xsane isnt looking in scanner0, somewhere else perhaps?

maybe there are some other commands I can fire at the machine to check the driver status or the USB Hub.

Thanks for your help.

Rob :)

hi!

what are the respective results of 'sane-find-scanner' and 'scanimage -L'?

You also might want to install Gimp and see if you can scan into that.
