Thumbs up scanimage sane xsane inetd gimp scanner situation

to the penguin:
i cannot seem to get my scanner to show in the gimp aquire menu. this is being to drive me nuts. :0 er, in a good way.
if i type *scanimage -L* as a user, my scanner is NOT found. however, if i type *scanimage -dplustek_pp:/dev/scanner* then the routine can find it. this blows my mind.
loading startx (kde) and then gimp does NOT show the scanner, however. why can't i get gimp to find my scanner? scanimage can find it with a little extra help on the command line. hmmm. ideas?

Uncomment the proper backend in /etc/sane.d/dll.conf. If the scanner is usb, try sane-find-scanner. If it fails, see the man page it specifies.

thanks awesome, i have done everything i can think of.

as root when i execute-->scanimage -L

the scanner shows.

as user when i execute-->scanimage -L

the scanner does NOT show, YET if i specifically call the
scanner-->scanimage -dplustek_pp:/dev/scanner

it shows.

i believe this to be related to my issue of getting the scanner to show in gimp.
