SB live sound problems

I just recently jumped from WinXP to Linux (Red Hat 7.3), and haven't been able to get any sound out of either my CD-RW or DVD-ROM drives. The sound I could get (playing mp3's, system or game sounds) was very distorted. I checked to see that the correct sound module was loaded (emu10k1) and tried a "modprobe emu10k1", but that didn't change anything. Also, I checked my connections on the inside of my computer, but they appeared correct and were not lose. I'm trying to figure out what else could be wrong.

what ever your using to play the files (xmms), turn down the pre amp volume. this will fix your problem

as for playing music through the drives I cant help there as I've not tried it myself...

I'd like to report similar problems. I have both a DVD player and a CD writer too and I can't play CDs either. I have the DVD player hooked to the SPDIF CD input on my Live! card and the CD writer hooked up to the regular CD audion input. When I try to use the SPDIF hookup, I get no sound and when I use the other CD with the normal hookup, it plays a few seconds and then pauses all by itself.

This is on Red Hat 7.3.
