SB Live! cannot record from mic

Hi all,

I'm trying to get my mic working in Slack 9, running through my SB Live! value sound card. When I unmute it and turn it up, I can hear myself breathing on it, so mic thoroughput works fine. But krec won't register any sound from it at all, and niether will speakfreely. The mic is set as the recording device as well, btw.

Anyone encountered this? Quick fixes?

Thanks

B.

Same problem

Does anyone knows how to solve this? Is this a driver problem?
Microphone works, but under krec, audacity or skype, although I can hear my voice through the speakers, there's no capturing.

I have tried the sound board* on Mandrake 10.1 DE and MEPIS (06.2004).

sure thing.:)
I use mike on Skype all the time and record on Audacity:cool:

Here is the trick:
su
<PW>
#alsamixer
Enable microphone bar with -m- key if set off. check that AC97 (Capture and normal too) emulation is up. Mike uses it.
ESC
#alsactl store
#chmod 666 /dev/dsp*
#reboot

Check recording with Audacity
Enjoy!
:Pengy:   :D

Thanks for the help.

I've followed your explanation and now something different happens. When I start a conversation in skype, I just hear a loud beep (like a huge feedback). But there's still no capturing of mic. Under audacity I get the following error message:

Error while opening sound device. Please check the input device settings and the project sample rate.

Any ideas?

Solved

Finally I have solved the problem.

As root, run alsaconf.
Then, follow procedures explained above by SlackerLX (thanks a lot for the help).

Good luck.
