SB Audigy Plat - Aux/Line Not Working!

Hi!

The problem I'm having is as follows.

I'm currently using Mandrake Linux 9.1. And none of the "IN's" on my SB Audigy work. By this I mean Auxiliary in, Line in etc...

I've tried both the EMU10k1 and 'audigy' drivers, numerous mixers and have spent about a week searching for answers on the internet. No matter how many things I unmute, the only things I manage to get working are my digital and analog speakers.

In desperation I had also tried the ALSA drivers from alsa-project.org, but I ended up with a make error compiling the libraries which I couldn't seem to fix (nothing to be done for 'all').

Is there anyone who can kindly point me in the right direction to get this working? Maybe a special mixer???

Thanks in advance!

Thanks for replying DrNo. I am trying to get the Line/Aux working for my TV card as well. So we're both in the same boat. Hopefully someone out there will have an answer for us.

Hi shiny_spoon,

got it. I simply installed the alsamixergui. That makes it possible to activate the line in. See my own thread about this case (and the link there!) - http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...hreadid=109866 - for more information.

Good luck

Thanks DrNo, your reply sounds very promising.

However, uppon running alsamixergui i get the following:
alsamixer: function snd_ctl_open failed for default: No such file or directory

Which driver are you using for your SB with alsamixer?

... time to go look for more answers!

Hi,

yesterday i was very happy hearing sound from xawtv for the first time. Afterwards everything seemed so easy. Maybe i coudn't put in the right words (and maybe i was wrong also). I will try again. But don't forget i'm not an expert!

MIXER: To get sound from xawtv, i have to activate the two mixer-controlers, "Line" (with the lamp above) and "AC97". Both are in alsamixergui and in kmix as well. But they seem to react slightly different - try for yourself. The sound isn't as load as in xmms, but ok.

DRIVER: There seemed to be three drivers for the audigy2: emu10k1, snd-emu10k1 and audigy (or are they only two!? - i don't know). I myself tried snd-emu10k1 and audigy. With both i now get sound from xmms and xawtv. Have a look in your /etc/modules.conf for your actual driver. You can change them with HardDrake or with an editor in /etc/modules.conf - the difference there being:
alias sound-slot-0 snd-emu10k1
above snd-emu10k1 snd-pcm-oss
or:
alias sound-slot-0 audigy
above snd-emu10k1 snd-pcm-oss
After eventualy changing the driver-modul you don't have to reboot, but can restart the sound with:
service -f sound

Hope, it helps - Wilhelm

A huge thank you DrNo!! After reading your above message and the posts you linked a few times I got things working.

Everything works as well as it would in Windows with the Creative or KX drivers! Finally I can solely use Linux as my OS.

Thanks again!
