SATA support for linux ( redhat 9 / Suse 9 / Fedora Coe 1)

Hello All,

I am wanting to set up a webserver based on linux. The hardware that I have at hand is a Jetway V600DAP motherboard with an Athlon XP 3000+ processor with 1GB of PC3200 Memory.

I have been told that this machine will have a Western Digital SATA 160GB hard drive. The graphics card will be an Nvidia 128 Geforce FX 5600.

Can any one please help me. I need to know if either of the above mentioned linux distros would be suitable to run on this machine or am I faced with having to install windows and then find all of the relevant programmes to allow me to FTP, webserve and fileserve.

What is the suupport and driver situation like at present for serial ATA under linux ??

If anyone could point me to a relevant website that would help me I'd be very greatful.

What SATA controller are to you going to use, onboard or pci? btw, onbaord would be better because through onboard it has a full on 150mb/sec connection to the northbridge, whereas pci is limited to 133mb/sec through the pci bus.

I have my onboard sata working with linux (my mobo is a gigabyte 8Inxp)
