Hello pliqui:
"This will be a kinda long post" Three hundred twelve charectors on the first line ? Rude. Nobody likes to scroll sideways. Use 65 charactors max. (ENTER) Cheers ratsarsed |
sorry, wasn't my intention, i mean the long post for all the info i shared.
Trying to be very detailed, to avoid ppl asking to show some logs, etc. Tought will help. |
Hi, you may use /dev/cdrom* (where * is the number corresponding to your device as listed in /dev) instead of any /dev/scd* or /dev/hd* . This is always a good idea in Debian.
Did you upgrade your device firmware ? It could come in handy if the manufacturer has been aware of any bug/problem... When you type Code:
groups I don't see anything wrong with your /dev Code:
ls -l | grep cdrom Is your burning app having some pref settings where you can set manually the burner specs (like in KDE K3B) ? If so have a look at the tech specs from the manufacturer website and fill in the informations manually. I'll receive a sata burner from samsung this week (hopefully), so I'll be able to share my experience... |
After all was the 64 bit kernel that doesn't have the driver. I tested it with fedora 8 64 bits and couldn't install, same for debian amd64, the installer failed when had to read from dvd.
So i switched back to debian 32 bits with 686-bigmem kernel and have my 4gb of ram. Wich os you are using, 32 or 64 bits? |
I'm running a Debian 32bits and an OpenSuse 64, but i didn't receive my dvd burner yet (crappy on-line shop !) so i can't share my experience. I have seen issues before regarding 64 bits distro and drivers, though usually not with dvd burner.
Outside of the dvd drive, do you have any other warning/error message at boot time regarding an on-board chip or irq ? See Code:
dmesg | grep irq Code:
dmesg | grep error What's the hardware you're running on ? (motherboard) |
I bet you will not have any issue with debian 32 bits, even i installed the lightscribe for linux from www.lightscribe.com but you probably will have issues with opensuse 64 bits.
