sata raid (0+1) on SUSE

Hi

Can someone guide me what SATA raid card to buy for a fileserver using four SATA disks (0+1). I'll install suse.
I've looked at
HIGHPOINT ROCKETRAID 1540 4-CHANNEL S-ATA RAID
and
PROMISE FASTTRACK S150 TX4 S-ATA RAID

After reading about people having big problems with the Promise card maybe the Highpoint card is a better choice, or?

Thanks in advance
/Jonas

I recently had a long discussion on this topic on another forum, I think the information I posted there may be of use to you.

Many "hardware RAID controllers" are, in fact, not hardware RAID
controllers. They rely on a software driver to do the hard work. How do you tell? Well, the price, for the most part. Anything under 100ukp is probably not worth touching. Anything under 200ukp probably has a small cache or isn't battery backed. Also check that the card has it's own BIOS with inbuilt configuration and diagnostics tools. If it relies on software for configuration, avoid buying.

Personally, I'd buy any 3ware SATA controller. 3ware kit tends to be absolutely fantastic.

Regards

Thanks

But the 3ware controllers are a little too expensive. But have anyone succsefully installed a Highpoint or Promise card on Suse
in a (0+1) config?

/Jonas
