Sata hard disk installation problem
 

As the subject is clear I am installing Fedora Core 3 on SATA hard
disk with Pentium D and 102 GCC motherboard,I get message hard disk
not detected on same system Fedora Core 4 is working
my problem is I have to use Fedora Core 3 for my experiments I don't
want to use FC4
some googling gave me a link to

these methods did not work or rather I should say my implimentation
was not correct .
I came to know some thing called " libata "
could not understand what is that, can some one point out as what
exactly should I do to install Fedora Core 3 or some older kernels on
my system .
Some one suggested me to make a new kernel with patch updated and make
a bootable CD to install ,I could not follow this if some one has any
idea then please give me a link or explain how to do this ,
what exactly I want to know is how to install Fedora Core 3 on my
system ?

Did you say FC3 or 4 and Pentium D?
 

Even though, by now, FC3 and FC4 are out of date (along with their kernels)...which might well be the problem...I have a feeling it might just be your old time processor and motherboard. SATA drives require an adequate north and southbridge on the motherboard and a BIOS which recognizes SATA drives. While I am not exactly sure about FC3/4, I am pretty sure, your motherboard is a little old to be accepting a SATA drive. In any case, if you don't have native SATA ports on the motherboard, you must be looking at a controller card on a PCI slot. If so, remember that a controller card has its own BIOS. I am just raising some issues here you might want tothink about.

* It could be your motherboard is too old, or its BIOS
* It could be your controller card is not recognized by Fedora
* It could be that the old kernel in the earlier Fedora release does not recognize the BIOS
of the controller card and so a SATA drive is not reported to Fedora and/or the kernel
won't work with it.

Why not forget these older versions of Fedora Core and go with FC6? In any event, even if your controller card is reporting a SATA drive correctly, you will need an adequate Kernel to use it.
