Sata DVD Drives

So how does sata dvd drives hold up with linux now days? Does most distros pretty much work out the box with them?

I'm in the market for a new dvd burner and thinking about buying a sata model. Any comments good or bad about it is apprecatiated.

I currently run Debian, Fedora 10 and sometimes try others but those 2 are my main distros.

Thnx.

The make and model of the drive are of very little importance compatibility-wise, it's the motherboard SATA controller that is more important. But if it supports AHCI, then even this is unimportant. So, the answer is, it will work 99.9 % of the time.
