sata drive detected, but not mountable
I recently installed a sata drive. initially it worked fine. now it will not mount, as there is no block device for it. if I comment out its line in fstab (I needed to do this in order to boot), and then uncomment it, I get a question about what to do with the new media detected (/dev/sda1), but when I select open in new window, I am told that only root can mount the device. fine. as root: "mount /dev/sda1" reply: device does not exist.

by the way, the kernel is fresh (just compiled) so could it be that I removed some feature needed for sata mounting? and yes, I have "scsi disk support" enabled.

I just compiled a new kernel today. Inside scsi disk support, did you hunt down SATA control and turn it on? "menuconfig" told me that there is old sata support for ide, but new sata support found in scsi. (I'm guessing you found that, because you noted that you enabled scsi.)

it appears I did not. I did not read about all the scsi drivers, I just knew I needed scsi disk support. compiling modules now, and I just saw the nv_sata I need.
edit: it is working now, I have scsi and sata built into the kernel, boots with no questions.
