Samsung SCX-4200 Configuration Issues

I have managed to install ( and uninstall/reinstall twice ) the latest drivers from the Samsung site, yet cannot print a test page, and the configurator:

- will not recognise a printer or scanner at all;
- claims port /dev/mfp4 is "unused" just like all the others, although I specified it during the install;
- dumps a "insmod: can't read '/lib/modules/2.6.16.16-kanotix-1/kernel/drivers/mfpportctrl/mfpport.ko': No such file or directory" to the console. The file in question is indeed missing ( as is the mfpportctrl directory ) and I am also unable to find such a file in the tarball itself.

The earlier version of the drivers on the CD provided failed to recognise both CUPS and SANE, so I did not install them.

Is this missing module merely a glitch with the last driver revision, or is this more likely caused by a mistake I keep making during installation?

I am able to print with my Samsung, but not scan… All my /dev/mfp? ports are unused, and the Samsung Unified Driver Configurator recognizes my built-in webcam instead of the scanner…
