Samsung ML - 1710 laser printer and "media tray empty" error.

I have MDK 9.2 and I've installed this USB laser printer using CUPS. When I'm trying to print it says "media tray empty", but paper is loaded. I can't print anything using LPR (from Samsung installation CD-ROM) - printer is configured and its status is reported as "idle". I have no problems with printer in MS Windows 98 SE.

Have you tried the updated drivers from samsung.com. The Samsung webpage is really messed up, someplaces it does even list the ml-1710. Just type 1710 in the search box on www.samsung.com -- the newest drivers were released in Oct. I have the same printer, however, I can only get the printer to work on my home LAN if it is connect to a RedHat 8 machine. My server was working fine then I decide to try Fedora on it - now I have to re-install 8.0 and try to get it to print again. Painful.

Thanks for help. I've installed the last drivers, as you advised me, and now printer works without these annoying errors.

Hi. I am considering buying this printer. Can someone comment on the quality an performance of the printer? Yes, the printer works when you hit the test button in the store, but what about people who use and abuse it. Does it work well or is it a piece of junk? Do you have any problems with it in linux or windows? Depending on what people say I may or may not buy it as a Christmas present to myself.

Thanks in advance.
