Question Samsung CLX-3185 installation problem on ubuntu 12.04 lts 64 bit

I'm having difficulties setting up the Samsung CLX-3185 laser printer on ubuntu 12.04 lts 64 bit. What exactly is the correct procedure to set this printer up?

1) Use CUPS to configure the printer.
2) Use CLX-3180 driver obtained from Samsung webpage and install it that way.

Or is it a combination of both? Either way I get the same problem, blank lines within the print test page.

Thanking you in advance,

I downloaded the Unified driver from Samsung, version 1.12. There is a list of dependencies listed in the file installer.htm. It lists cups, sane, and ghostscript.

In the install instructions, cups has to be installed before the unified driver. Was that the case? If not, the instructions tell you to remove the unified driver, install cups, then re-install the driver.

Beyond that, once you have cups, + ghostscript + the driver, you would need to configure the setup through cups web interface; http://localhost:631 .

If that printer has a scanner, then sane would need to be installed as well, before you install the driver. Did you run the 'autorun' file as root? ( sudo /path/to/autorun file ).
