safe to upgrade?

I want to upgrade the cpu and motherboard on my pc. Will I need to re-install linux after this upgrade or is a simple matter of hardware detection?

If the CPU is going to be of a different family you might want to recompile kernel to best support your CPU, and as long as kudzu is running all low level drivers should be installed without problems.

I'm going from pentium 2 350mhz to Celeron 1000mhz. The technician said he can adapt existing motherboard to take celeron. (so i'm presuming bios will stay the same). Does this constitute 'same family' ?
