S3 prosavage DDR and Linux

Hello

I'm using a notebook computer with S3 Prosavage DDR 32 mb VGA chip. I wonder its' 3d acceleration works under Linux (using Slackware9.1). I downloaded Space-Combat game from www.x-plane.com , when I run it, it complains about openGL stuff in /lib is absent. I visited opengl.org the website said opengl driver should be provided by the card maker so I went to S3graphic.com and found no driver for linux. Does my card support openGL at all? And out of my curiosity, is every 3d stuff in Linux has to be run in openGL mode?
