Ryzen X470 boards & Linux kernel 4.15+ incompatibility?
Recently I ordered new hardware, to make a new build, around a Ryzen 7 2700X, and an MSI X470 Gaming Plus motherboard. I'm intending to run Kubuntu 18.10 on it.
Only a few days ago I found out about this incompatibility issue with AGESA on the X470 boards. Most of these posts on other boards mention the issue of AGESA 1.0.0.4 having the issue, although some mention 1.0.0.2c, as well. I've seen recommendations of downgrading to earlier BIOS versions to deal with the issue.
I haven't seen a more recent thread on this, however, and MSI latest BIOS version for the X470 Gaming Plus is 7B79vA5, released on November 19th, which has the AGESA version 1.0.0.6.
My question is, even with 1.0.0.6, am I still likely to run into trouble with 4.15? I was intending to flash the BIOS to the most recent version and see how well Kubuntu 18.10 runs with it. Although, I was also planning to upgrade the kernel to the most recent release as well.
Not directly answering, but why are you asking about 4.15 if you're going to run 18.10? 18.10 has a 4.18 kernel.
As far as answering the actual question, I'm not sure. I have a X370 and it works fine with 4.18 kernel, but of course can't speak for the x470 support.

Because, as far as I know, the issue applies to 4.15 and up, not just 4.15 itself. In any case, I planned to upgrade to 4.19... 4.19.12 was released today.
