running kubuntu on older pc

hi,

i have an older pc (P II 300 mhz - 64 MB RAM) but i tried to install kubuntu.
It runs incredible slow, even booting takes a long time. When KDE is finally booted, every program i open takes minutes to load.

Are there some things i can do to make it faster?
I'm still a beginner so you have to tell me exactly what to do.

thx

These are my solutions, from the least to the most drastic.
1. get rid of daemons you do not need.
2. try a different Window Manger.
3. try a different distro.
