Unhappy Run Config Tool for Soundcard on Harddrake doesn't work

I've been reading around on how to fix sound problems in mandrake 10...
some people say run 'sndconfig' - that doesn't work: A PCI soundcard was not found on your device
others say run mcc and got to hardware - hardware - sound card - run config tool...
this should bring up a list of drivers to choose from, but it does nothing
What should I do?

Hi iodax, welcome to lq. Open konsole and type the foloowing commands

/sbin/lspci -v

copy and paste the results here please. Have you tried running a mixer and unmuting sound? Are you certain your sound card is a pci card?
good luck.
