Question Ricoh Sd/mmc Card Reader Won't Read Mmc Cards

Hi people. I've just bought a new laptop and installed SuSE 10.3 on it.
The laptop itself is: HP Pavilion dv2000 (dv2500 to presice). All the hardware there works out of the box (almost. WiFi had to be Ndiswraped :/ )
The only problem here is with MMC cards. The builtin reader reads SD cards perfectly well. But won't even see MMC cards (dmesg registers noting )
I would assume that the hardware that reads SD cards simply must read MMC, since they are of the same nature. There also is a possibility that the reader never worked to begine with, but then I would assume it shouldn't read SD either, but it does.
Does anyone know how to make MMC work?
Thanks.

Eugene

P.S.: Attaching my lspci -v hardware listing for refernce.

P.P.S.: Sorry forgot - the reader lists the following formats as supported: SD-MS/Pro-MMC-XD

Just a quick google search seems to point that the kernel needs patched for mmc needs to disable the mmc_block module so the sdhci can grab the mmc cards. http://lists.zerezo.com/linux-kernel/msg13415903.html

Also checked the www.kernel.org and did some quick searching. The testing kernels of 2.6.24-rc* have the ricoh_mmc.c patch already built in. So you could download that one and build a new kernel with once you enable the module during the configuration of the kernel. Only looked at the changelogs and the 2.6.24-rc6 kernel release.

Old thread, though exactly the same problem. HP 8510w on Ubuntu 10.10, built-in Ricoh SmartCard/SD card reader. Ubuntu reads SD cards out of the box, yet nothing happens when SC is placed in the slot. Is this link Brian1 posted still relevant these days with newer kernels out?
(I understand that patch disables SD card reader so SmartCards could be read?)
"lspci | grep -i ricoh" output:
Code:
02:06.0 CardBus bridge: Ricoh Co Ltd RL5c476 II (rev b9)
02:06.1 CardBus bridge: Ricoh Co Ltd RL5c476 II (rev b9)
02:06.2 FireWire (IEEE 1394): Ricoh Co Ltd R5C832 IEEE 1394 Controller (rev 03)
02:06.3 SD Host controller: Ricoh Co Ltd R5C822 SD/SDIO/MMC/MS/MSPro Host Adapter (rev 20)

The kernel can be configured to use the old /sys/block directory or the newer /sys/class/block
Code:
ls /sys/class/block
Quote:
fd0 loop3 ram0 ram13 ram4 ram9 sda12 sda2 sda7 sdb2 sdc3
fd1 loop4 ram1 ram14 ram5 sda sda13 sda3 sda8 sdb3 sdd
loop0 loop5 ram10 ram15 ram6 sda1 sda14 sda4 sda9 sdc sdd1
loop1 loop6 ram11 ram2 ram7 sda10 sda15 sda5 sdb sdc1 sr0
loop2 loop7 ram12 ram3 ram8 sda11 sda16 sda6 sdb1 sdc2
In my case sdd1 is the mmc card in the USB modems' extra slot ,
and sr0 the chip containing the windows driver an GUI installer .
