Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

RHEL8 - PCIe SATA controller with boot support

What do you like? I'm setting up an older Intel server for training purposes, but it lost RHEL support at version 6. That said, everything still works with the RHEL 8 installer, except it won't create a boot drive. I'm debating between just booting from a USB drive, or turn off the integrated SATA controller and plugging in a new card that RHEL 8 would like. RAID isn't a concern, but I wouldn't throw it out. Are you using a card with RHEL 8 that you've been impressed with?

And I'm using RHEL 8 under a developer account.

I'm not saying that it has been removed. A driver is still there, else I wouldn't see the drives. The OS does install on the drive as well, BUT the installer will not establish a boot drive. I have reloaded at least a half-dozen times with various BIOS settings and even a different drive.
According to lscpi, on board it has:
Code:
00:1f.2 SATA controller [0106]: Intel Corporation 82801JI (ICH10 Family) SATA AHCI Controller [8086:3a22]
I'm guessing that the driver being used now is just different enough from RHEL 6 that it can't set up the boot. I know that I could probably get this working manually, but I'm trying to keep this a KISS installation process. And frankly, I'm tiring of fighting with it, so I've ordered a PCIe SATA controller that claims full compatibility with RHEL 8, including being able to provide a boot drive. I will know tomorrow if that is true!
