RHAS 4 Not Detecting NIC
Hi,
We just purchased an HP Proliant DL585 G2 server which has two NC371i Multifunction Gigabit Network Adapters (other specs: four dual core 64 bit 2.6Ghz AMD Opteron processors, 8G Memory, 2 73G drives). I just installed Redhat AS 4 (AMD64/Intel EM64T version) which went smoothly but it didn't detect the network adapters. I downloaded and installed the drivers from HP's site but still no luck. I can't figure out why it won't detect the network adapters. If anyone has come across this problem or has any suggestions, it'd be much appreciated. Thanks. |

Which drivers from HP did you download, the name and/or download link would be helpful. Did the drivers have and installation or readme guide or file, if yes then try some reading. |
Thanks...I found that it was a problem with PCI probing. According to redhat:
"During PCI probing, Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 attempts to use information obtained from MCFG (memory-mapped PCI config space ACPI table). On AMD systems, there are buses where this type of access does not work and the kernel cannot parse the MCFG table. "As a work around, the kernel needs to be informed not to use MCFG on AMD based systems. Use the workaround "pci=conf1" or "pci=nommconf" on the kernel boot line in /etc/grub.conf to tell the kernel to use PCI Conf1 type access instead of MCFG-based access." Thanks for the update and link to the article, it is always nice to see how an issue can be solved.
