RH-9 AW35 sound card... no sound

Error while initializing the sound driver: device /dev/dsp can't be opened (No such device). The sound server will continue, using the null output device.

# cat /etc/sysconfig/hwconf

class: AUDIO
bus: ISAPNP
detached: 1
driver: ad1848
desc: "AW35/Pro (Resource R2.2-D7):WSS/SB"
deviceId: CSC0000
pdeviceId: CSCd937
native: 1
active: 0
cardnum: 0
logdev: 0

# ps aux|grep 'fuser/dev/dsp'

root 2960 0.0 0.5 3576 632 pts/1 S 18:34 0:00 grep fuser/dev/dsp

How do I fix this so that I can play CD's?

You have a Crystal CS4237. It is supported by ALSA and OSS.
