Question RH 8.0 / Grip / cdparanoia problem

Hello!

I have Red Hat 8.0. and I'm trying to use Grip 3.0.5 to rip my CDs' tracks.
When I try to rip anything, Grip spits out:

"Unable to open cdrom drive." in the console.

Any thoughts? For the cd device, I've tried /dev/cdrom, /dev/hdc,
/dev/scd0. None work.

As for CD playing, it all works fine.

Any help would be appreciated.

Well,

After some extensive googling, I found that one workaround is to suid root to /usr/bin/cdparanoia:

chmod +s /usr/bin/cdparanoia

It works now, but does it really have to be this way?
