Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

restarting printer in cups

I'm running CUPS and Samba on my SuSE-Linux-box, acting as print- and file server. Printing works, but every once in a while the printer stops. So I have to go to //localhost:631/printers, log in as root and press the "Start Printer" button. Then, everything works fine again.

As I have no clue why the printer stops, I would like to write a script, that, say every 2 minutes, looks, if the printer is running, and then, if not, restarts the printer. Does anyone know the commands for looking, if the printer works, and for restarting it? ("rccups restart" doesn't work)
