Resolution setting for ATI radeon 9200

Hi all,

I' m installing the distribution Debian Sarge on a Sony Vaio S-150 and I have a problem
just with the resolution of the screen.
The unique used part of the screen is a rectangular area at the center of the screen (about 1/4 of the total area).
I tried to reconfigure the resultion in lilo.conf with:

which should be the right code for the screen 1280 x 800

but it changes only the shape of the characters with the right weight/height ratio, and not the portion of the screen occupied.
Have you some suggestion?

I have not tried to configure X server yet...

Ok, I have solved it upgrading xfree from official debian mirrors.
The text resolution remain the same, but X it's not affected and it works.
