Did you use your own display's HorizSync and VertRefresh instead of those in the example, or try the more common 1024x600 or 1024x640 modes?

Yes, I did.
In this case, there's something wrong with the IGP or the video driver, it's not the monitor(s). As I stated before, the output signal is always 720x576. I suppose that the video driver or the IGP doesn't support 1024x576 correctly, so they default to a supported resolution.

What happens if you play a 1024x576 source while set at 1280x720? I know for sure it should insert the black space vertyically, I'm not sure about horizontal
